'Gary Neville Has Named His Manchester United Team Of The Decade

Gary Neville believes that Marcus Rashford "could play in any Manchester United team over the past 25 years" as he revealed his Red Devils Team of the Decade.

The Red Devils have failed to win the Premier League title since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford in 2013.

And former United captain Neville, 44, has named only two players from the current United squad in the club's Team of the Decade.

David de Gea, who made a shocking howler in United's 2-0 defeat to Watford last Sunday, takes up his place between the sticks.

Despite the drop in his form, Neville said on Sky Sports that the 29-year-old Spanish shot-stopper has been "outstanding" for most of the decade.

Antonio Valencia takes up his place at right-back and Patrice Evra beats Luke Shaw to the left-back position.

Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are the centre-back pairing in front of De Gea, with Neville saying that they are the "best Manchester United centre-back partnership of all time, let alone the last decade."

Neville's Team of the Decade for United, which is lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, has Red Devils legend Ryan Giggs out on one wing and Rashford out on the opposite wing.

The United legend named a central midfield partnership of Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, with the latter being called an "unsung hero for many years that kept everyone else ticking over."

Neville finished off his Team of the Decade with the striking partnership of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, who were both "outstanding strikers of the decade at Manchester United."

The Sky Sports pundit's decision to select Rashford over Nani has sparked controversy with United fans.

But Neville has taken to Twitter to defend his selection by showing a side-by-side comparison of the two players' stats and arguing Rashford "played in a far worse team as well."

The Red Devils are currently eighth in the Premier League and are seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

United will return to action today when they host Newcastle at Old Trafford for a 5:30pm kick-off.
