Bruno Fernandes told reporters that his preference has always been to play in the Premier League after Manchester United finally agreed terms with Sporting CP.
United are believed to be close to agreeing a deal for Fernandes in a transfer worth a reported £46.5 million plus £21 million in add-ons.
The Portuguese midfielder is expected to arrive at Carrington on Wednesday to undergo a medical ahead of completing his transfer to the Old Trafford club.
On Tuesday night after news broke after a transfer being agreed, Fernandes' friend Carolina Deslandes posted a picture of the player with an airplane emoji, hinting at a possible trip to England.
He was also quizzed by reporters about his potential move and when asked if the Premier League was his preference, the 25-year-old replied: "It always was."
When pressed on a switch to United, he said: "Anything really."
Fernandes is set to sign a four-and-a-half year contract with the option of another year.
The attack-minded star enjoyed a breakout campaign last season as he weighed in with an impressive 33 goals in all competitions, including 20 in the Primeira Liga.
He has already 15 goals in all competitions this season as he nears a move to England's top flight.
