'Mike Dean Explains Why He 'Celebrated' Spurs Goal Against Aston Villa

Mike Dean has recalled the moment he decided to celebrate Spurs' goal against Aston Villa in one of his many hilarious moments as a referee.

As Mousa Dembele wheeled away in celebration after opening the scoring just three minutes into the game at White Hart Lane in 2015, so too did Dean.

Somehow, he actually looked happy than the goalscorer - with his arms in the air as he ran away.

But according to the Dean, who recently officiated his 500th game in the Premier League - the reason he celebrated stemmed from the fact he had played an advantage that had led to the goal.

Ciaran Clark was pulling Dembele back but the Belgian was allowed to play on and hold off the defender en route to slotting home, which left the Wirral official ecstatic.

Reflecting on his classic moment in an interview with the BBC, he said: "I wouldn't say it was a goal celebration, I was celebrating an advantage."

"As you can see, but I kind of got carried away with the whole day really.

"It is a foul and I've played on, probably shouldn't have put my arms out but it was good."

Dean has produced countless moments of magic during his tenure as a referee.

The part-time Tranmere Rovers ultra has a tendency to pull out no-look red cards, stealing match-balls for players score and theatrical points to the spot.

Other favourite Dean moments including telling Lewis Dunk "off you pop" when he sent him off against Bournemouth in 2018 and sniffing his linesman's shirt before a game.
