Gary Neville has put together a five-point plan on how to save the 2019/20 season.
The Manchester United legend is not in favour of declaring the current campaign null and void due to the coronavirus outbreak and stresses the need to complete the season in a short period of time when it is safe to do so.
He also raises the point of potentially condensing the 2020/21 season should it be required.
Regarding the transfer window and how the postponement has affected the market, the Sky Sports pundit recommends opening the window in May and extending it right through to the following season.
Player contracts have been a key sticking point and Neville says deals must be extended for the 2019/20 season to be completed, while also suggesting financial packages for those struggling with money, specifically mentioning clubs in the lower echelons.
-finish this season in a short time frame when safe

-condense next season if needed
-open transfer window from May and run it all the way through 20/21 to give clubs agility
-extend player contracts to complete 19/20
-financial packages for clubs in need inc non-league
The plan was questioned by Piers Morgan and the two then engaged in a discussion.
Piers it will work and is likely to happen when and only when it is safe to do so.

Huge respect for you Gary (especially with what you're doing for NHS staff at your hotels) but it won't... and there's way too much energy being expended on trying to 'save the football season' when all efforts should be diverted to saving lives. Football's irrelevant. https://t.co/wH3qFEdTjc

yes, I get that... but you seem to think this will be all over in a couple of months. It won't be.

No I don’t . But whenever it is over their has to be a plan that is well thought out.

A football fan on Twitter had the idea to allow until November for the domestic seasons to be wrapped up around Europe and then have the Euros take place alongside the Africa Cup of Nations in January to February.
The following season would start in March through to November 2021 before a winter break ensues. The action would then resume in January 2022 until October 2022, a month prior to the 2022 World Cup, which, for the first time ever, is taking place in the winter in Qatar.
