'Football Shouldn't Return Until The End Of The 2020/2021 Season According To WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) have reportedly called for all football to be suspended until the end of next season - 2020/2021.

It's believed that the WHO want to put extreme measures in place to ensure there isn't a second wave of coronavirus.

Italian publication La Repubblica per The Sun state the organisation discussed the idea during a recent conference call with UEFA.

UEFA have denied the claims in a statement which read: "This is not correct. WHO never recommended that football should no longer be played until the end of 2021."

A number of clubs could be plunged into financial trouble due to loss of matchday income if the lengthy suspension occurs.

Teams across the world have discussed their players taking pay cuts as a way to save money in testing times.

Arsenal are one of the Premier League clubs to introduce this, but three players have reportedly declined.

One of those is midfielder Mesut Ozil - who wants to see the full financial impact of the global pandemic before making a decision according to the Mirror.

The 31-year-old has stated he respects the other players decision but has urged them to respect his stance on the situation.

World Cup winner Ozil is also believed to be willing to take a higher pay cut than the 12.5% agreed, but thinks the process has been rushed.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are set to sell the naming rights of the Nou Camp for the first time ever in a bid to fund COVID-19 research.

The Catalan giants have played in the stadium since 1957 and it has never had a sponsor attached.

Per the club's official website, that's all set to change should next season go ahead.
