Xabi Alonso is 'in the frame' to sensationally join Manchester City with Pep Guardiola on the lookout for a new assistant coach.
Guardiola lost his right-hand man earlier this season when Mikel Arteta was appointed Arsenal head coach.
Rodolfo Borrell filled the void on a temporary basis with the City boss set to appoint a new No.2 this summer and reports suggest a Liverpool legend could replace Arteta.

The Spaniard enjoyed five years at Anfield, becoming a hero during his time at the club.
So, naturally, Alonso potentially returning to England to take up a coaching position at City hasn't gone down well with some Liverpool fans.

One social media user wrote: "That would end any talk of him returning to LFC for me. Ya can't conspire against us with Pep, giving him insight into how to deal with Anfield, Hoping we lose games etc then expect to work for us again. Really hope it doesn't happen. Loved him and always wanted an LFC return."
A second tweeted: "Should have a job at Anfield imo. Nobody could pass a ball like him."
A third added: "Why can't they go for their own legends."
Guardiola and Alonso spent two seasons together in Germany with Bayern Munich. Alonso retired from football while at the German champions and moved into coaching with Real Madrid's Under-14s.
The 38-year-old was then appointed manager of Real Sociedad B in the Spanish third division.
Could he leave his role in Spain to reunite with Guardiola? Watch this space.
