Diego Maradona has been voted as the best footballer of the 90s, despite his success coming in the previous decade, beating the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo.
The 90s is a decade that brings a lot of memories for those of us who grew up watching football at that time, with some of the most iconic players of modern times plying their trade.
Maradona, considered by some as the greatest of all time, was still playing at the beginning of the decade but he's best remembered for failing a drugs test during the 1994 World Cup, and his drug fuelled goal celebration.
However despite that the Argentina legend and World Cup winner has been voted the best player of the decade by fans on Ranker:
1. Diego Maradona
2. Peter Schmeichel
3. Roberto Baggio
4. Alessandro del Piero
5. Zinedine Zidane
6. Dennis Bergkamp
7. Thierry Henry
8. Ronaldo
9. Pavel Nedved
10. Roberto Carlos
11. Luis Figo
12. Ryan Giggs
13. Gabriel Batistuta
14. Eric Cantona
15. Romario
16. Hristo Stoichkov
17. Raul
18. Gheorghe Hagi
19. Lothar Matthaus
20. Paul Scholes
21. Alan Shearer
22. Oliver Kahn
23. Rivaldo
24. Oleg Salenko
25. Jari Rantanen
How two time World Footballer of the Year Ronaldo is down in eighth on the list is anyone's guess. The Brazilian was the best in the world in 1996 and 1997 before finishing as runner up to Zidane in 98.
Had the former Inter man not got injured on the afternoon of the 98 World Cup final he'd have surely inspired Brazil to victory and would have been the first man to win the award three years in-a-row.
There's no doubt that the list has some of the all time great players on it and Maradona would make most all time top fives but not for his contributions in the 90s.
