'Alphonso Davies Could Have Joined Swansea City For Just £3 Million In 2017

Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies could have signed for Swansea City for a bargain £3 million back in 2017.

Davies put pen to paper with Bayern Munich who splashed out $22 million (£19.8 million) to secure his services from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018.

But the Canadian international could have plied his trade in the Premier League with Swansea very keen on signing the speedy youngster.

Then-Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson, who was capped 52 times by Wales, recommended Swansea to sign Davies during his spell in charge.

However, a potential transfer to Swansea collapsed because of work permit issues. He was a Liberian citizen who gained a Canadian passport, according to The Sun.

Of course, Davies completed a transfer to Bayern Munich a few years later and he's quickly becoming one of the world's best left-backs with his brilliant performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

The 19-year-old has starred for the German champions since the restart of the league.

He showed off his incredible pace to chase back Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland during Der Klassiker.

And the 'Road Runner' continued to show off his speed during his side's victory over Dusseldorf on Saturday when he reached a top speed of 35.4 km/h - his fastest speed yet.

Thomas Muller was asked what he made of Davies' ascent to stardom.

"He's a player with a lot of heart and a lot of power... extreme power," he explained.

"Sometimes maybe his positioning on the field is not the best, but he gets the opponent thinking, 'Oh, I have time, I have time.'

"And then 'Meep meep meep meep' the Bayern roadrunner comes ahead and steals the ball."
