Man City and Liverpool 'to go H2H' in battle to sign KV Mechelen starlet Vranckx

Manchester City are set to take on rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Belgian wonderkid Aster Vranckx.

Both Premier League clubs have watched 17-year-old KV Mechelen midfielder in the Belgium league this season.

Vranckx caught the eye when he scored the first and set up the second in a 2-0 win over Anderlecht.

Bayern Munich and Feyenoord have also been keeping tabs on the player who had gained a regular starting place KV Mechelen side just before the Belgian league was postponed in March.

He already has five caps for the Belgium U19 side, and with Premier League clubs looking to cut their budgets as they face serious losses over the next uncertain 12 months, Vranckx represents a realistic target.

With the Belgium league facing a vote on May 15 over the question of whether to end their season because of the Coronavirus crisis, Mechelen will almost certainly need to sell this summer.
