Anthony Martial hilariously forgot the match ball after scoring a stunning hat-trick for Manchester United against Sheffield United.

Martial's stylish hat-trick earned United a 3-0 Premier League victory over the Blades at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

But the Frenchman nearly forgot to take home the match ball at the final whistle.

He was walking down to the tunnel without the match ball until a United official reminded him.

The 24-year-old then quickly turned around and retrieved it from referee Anthony Taylor.

Needless to say, Martial's funny moment sent social media wild.

"I mean it's his first hat-trick in 5 years at Man Utd," one Twitter user wrote.

A second tweeted: "That lady doesn't look very happy!"

A third added: "The ref ought to have delivered the ball to him, thank God for that woman."

Martial improved his tally for the season to 19 goals - his best return since his transfer from AS Monaco.

And manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is pleased with the striker's progress.

"I am very happy for Anthony," said Solskjaer. "We have worked with him getting in the box. The first goal, I think that's a vital goal with the way he turned and got himself into a position to score from Marcus' cross.

"He's getting into those positions more and more. He is in good form."

United, who remain in fifth place but just two points behind Chelsea, switch their attention to the FA Cup as they play Norwich City on Saturday.

The Reds will resume their league campaign next Tuesday at Brighton.
