Arsenal are poised to tie David Luiz to a new contract after a long saga.
The Brazilian's one-year contract was due to expire on June 30 and his absolute disasterclass in the Gunners' first game back against Manchester City last Wednesday didn't appear to help his cause for a renewal.

However, after taking full blame for the 3-0 defeat and confirming his desire to stay put in a post-match interview, the Brazilian is now expected to put pen to paper on a fresh one-year deal at the Emirates before the deadline to extend expires.
David Luiz is close to signing a new one-year deal at Arsenal.

Luiz made the move across London from Chelsea to Arsenal for a fee of £8 million on Deadline Day last August but hasn't impressed in a red and white shirt.
The former Benfica man has given away four penalties since joining Arsenal and made a number of costly errors at the back - leaving fans baffled as to how and why he has got himself a new deal.
Just having Luiz for a season has set back Arsenal £24 million, according to reports. In addition to the initial £8 million transfer fee intermediaries involved in the deal collected a cool £6 million and the final £10 million comes from Luiz's salary.
It would appear that Luiz has taken a significant wage reduction in order to continue playing for Mikel Arteta's side.
Arsenal have also extended the loans for Dani Ceballos, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares - the latter having yet to play for the club after joining on a temporary basis from Southampton.
