'Edinson Cavani May Miss First Game Against Newcastle United

Edinson Cavani might have made his move to Manchester United in time to beat the transfer deadline but he might have to miss the team's next game against Newcastle United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is definitely without Anthony Martial for United's next game, which isn't until a week on Saturday because of the international break, after the Frenchman's red card against Spurs on Sunday.

But if United fans expected Cavani to slot straight in to replace the striker then they may have been very much mistaken.

That's because, as per the Times, the former PSG striker travelled to Manchester on Monday and needs to quarantine for 14 days.

Elite athletes are usually exempt but that's when they've been in secure bubbles, like they would be with a football team, but Cavani has not had a team since leaving the Ligue 1 champions in June.

Players who have gone off to play international football this week will not have to quarantine when they arrive and the same goes for most other signings made on deadline day.

United are seeking clarification as to whether Cavani will also be exempt or whether his time not at a club will mean he is treated like the public, in regards quarantining.

Fellow deadline day signings Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri would both be available for selection, having come from bubbles at Porto and Penarol respectively.

The Uruguayan confirmed recently that he and partner Jocelyn Burgardt had tested positive for Coronavirus last month.

The pair went on holiday to Ibiza with former PSG team mates Ángel Di María and Leandro Paredes and got tested on their return.

The 33-year-old and his partner have since recovered and he is fully fit for the game against Newcastle, so only the quarantine would stand in the way of him making his debut.

Martial's red card, which happened with United 2-1 down against Spurs, means that the former Monaco striker will miss the next three Premier League games.

As well as Newcastle he will miss the visits of Chelsea and Arsenal, though he will be available for Champions League matches against RB Leipzig and PSG in that time.
