The Everton keeper smashed into the Liverpool defender with a scissors motion tackle.
And according to Liverpool Echo, Pickford tried to say sorry to Van Dijk who dismissed his apology then uttered: "No."
Sadio Mane then arrived at the scene of the injury and told Pickford to 'go away' because his help was not wanted.
Van Dijk was replaced by Joe Gomez as his side went onto draw 2-2 at Everton.
On beIN SPORTS, Richard Keys said: "The information that we are receiving is that he has done his anterior cruciate ligament.
"If that is the case, well I say he's done, in that incident with Jordan Pickford, he will be out for 7-8 months if that is the case."
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp issued a worrying update following the result.
"Virgil played I don't know how many games in a row, he plays with pain, but he couldn't play on," he said. "That's not good."
He also believes that his side should have been awarded a penalty for Pickford's tackle on Van Dijk.
"It was a clear penalty I saw and then we saw the flag went up. I thought they would still look at the foul but that didn't happen," he added.
"I don't want to say Jordan Pickford wanted to do it but it is not a challenge a goalie can do in the box."
