Arsenal fear Folarin Balogun is set to leave on a free after failing to tie him down to a new deal

Arsenal’s hopes of retaining Folarin Balogun beyond this season are fading.

The Gunners have been trying to tie down highly-rated teenage striker Balogun on a new deal, reviving discussions towards the end of last year.

Manager Mikel Arteta is keen to keep hold of the 19 year-old whose current contract expires this summer.

But Arsenal have yet to reach an agreement with Balogun, and been unable to convince him with their latest offer, increasing the likelihood he will see out his contract and depart.

Balogun has featured five times for Arteta’s side this season, all as a substitute, but managed to score twice, against Molde and Dundalk in the Europa League, though he has yet to make his Premier League debut.

Balogun is now free to agree a pre-contract with a foreign club but has also attracted interest from Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Southampton and Brighton.
