'Roy Keane's Defence Of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Is Perfect A Year On

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got a win over Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday evening and backed up Roy Keane's argument with Jamie Carragher from almost exactly a year ago.

The turnaround by Manchester United in recent times has seen them go from laughing stock to title challengers, during this season alone.

On Sunday Solskjaer's side came from behind against rivals Liverpool to win 3-2 at Old Trafford, in an enthralling FA Cup fourth round match.

The manager certainly deserved praise for his approach to the game and the way he made his substitutions, with Bruno Fernandes coming off the bench to score the winner.

It was certainly very different from a year ago when United lost 2-0 to Jurgen Klopp's side in the league. It led to a lot of criticism of the manager.

Whilst Carragher said that the former United forward wasn't good enough for the job and that his CV didn't allow him patience, Keane called for the Norwegian to be given time.

Keane argued that both David Moyes and Jose Mourinho should have been given more time at Old Trafford too, something that United fans might not agree with, but it does look like he's had a point when it comes to Solskjaer.

The former Cardiff City manager really has turned things around, with the help of Fernandes of course, and their run since last January has been the catalyst.

A week after the loss to Liverpool last year they lost away to Burnley and they haven't lost away in the league since. They finished third last season and reached the semi finals of the Europa League and FA Cup.

They are now looking to better their performances in all three competitions, and a title race can't be ruled out at all.

Interestingly Frank Lampard was also brought up in the argument. The Chelsea boss had only been in charge at Stamford Bridge for six months at that point.

The former Blues' midfielder had started well but had lost to Newcastle United the day before Keane and Carragher's argument, their sixth loss in 11 games.

Lampard's side finished fourth and got to the FA Cup final but he is back under pressure again this season with the side ninth and 11 points back from United.

Perhaps Roman Abramovich should heed Keane's words, take a look at things at Old Trafford and give a club legend a little bit more time.
