'Dele Alli’s Twitter Reaction Shows How He Feels About Being Frozen Out At Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has shared his frustration at being frozen out of Tottenham's first team on Twitter.

The 24-year-old hasn't started a Premier League game since Spurs' season opener against Everton and hasn't even been in the squad for the last three games, fuelling speculation that his relationship with Jose Mourinho has broken down entirely.

The player was linked with a January loan move to PSG and former manager Mauricio Pochettino - but that collapsed. And on deadline day, Dele 'liked' a pair of tweets strongly criticising his absence from the Tottenham set-up.

"Why not get Alli playing again!? He was one of the best in the country!" said Harry Redknapp on talkSPORT in one of the tweets flagged by the player.

"Anything other than a top-four finish, in the eyes of the owners, is a disaster," former Tottenham boss Redknapp is also quoted as saying.

The other tweet liked by Dele is from Sky Sports - and an opinion from an Arsenal legend: '"Alli simply must play," Paul Merson thinks Tottenham are missing out by not playing Dele Alli and insists he's still one of England's best talents.'

Fans and pundits can be guilty of reading too much into a player's actions on social media - but it cannot be a coincidence that Dele Alli chose to publicly highlight a pair of tweets that strongly question why he's been frozen out of Spurs' starting XI.

Some Tottenham fans have been asking the same question, as Spurs have been struggling badly in recent weeks. The club have lost their last three matches - to Brighton, Liverpool and Sheffield United - and slipped to sixth in the Premier League.

The absence of Harry Kane with ankle problems meant Spurs were short of attacking options in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Sunday. But still Dele wasn't even on the bench.

His bond with boss Mourinho has been questioned from the start. The 'All or Nothing' documentary shone a light on their dynamic with the manager calling the player "F**king lazy" on his first day in the job.

"I am going to be a pain in the ass on you. And you are lucky because when I am a pain in the ass, it's a good thing," added Mourinho.

The attempt at goading the player into proving him wrong does not seem to have worked on this occasion, however, as Alli has looked nothing like the player he was in his early years at Tottenham (though some may argue he hasn't had the chance to show otherwise recently).

Now that we know the player won't be going to Paris Saint-Germain this winter, we wait and see whether his Tottenham freeze-out ends any time soon.
