Bayern Munich 'decline permanent move for Juventus loan star Douglas Costa'

Bayern Munich will reportedly not extend Douglas Costa's loan beyond the end of the season, after a disappointing second spell in the Bundesliga for the Juventus loanee.

The Brazilian midfielder returned to the German giants on a season-long loan in October, but has struggled to impress Bayern boss Hansi Flick.

According to Goal.com, Bayern have made the decision not to renew the loan nor complete a permanent transfer, meaning the Bianconeri will attempt to find another club for the 30-year-old who is also out of favour with the Serie A champions.

Costa sustained a metatarsal fracture in February and therefore has been sidelined in recent weeks.

However, even before the injury the Brazilian struggled to reach the performance levels he achieved during his first spell with the Bundesliga club.

Costa originally joined Bayern from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2015 and spent two years with club before he was loaned to Juventus.

The Brazilian sealed a permanent move to Turin the following summer, however he tarnished his reputation with the club's hierarchy after he was involved in an altercation with Federico Di Francesco in a match against Sassuolo in early 2018.

His stock continued to decline, resulting in the Brazilian returning to former club Bayern on loan, where he has subsequently made just 11 Bundesliga appearances with only three starts.

The attacking midfielder has been marginalised due to the form of the likes of Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane.

Costa is expected to leave Juventus this summer but it remains to be seen if this will be another loan deal or a permanent transfer.

Brazilian club Gremio is one potential destination, however Costa's deal with Juve expires next summer so they may have to be flexible with any proposed move away from the club.
