Chris Wilder is set to leave his post as Sheffield United manager today, according to several news reports.
The Blades boss has been in charge of the club since 2016 and overseen their incredible rise from League One to the Premier League.
However the BBC, talkSPORT and various other news outlets are now reporting that the 53-year-old Sheffield United manager is all set to leave his current role with immediate effect. An internal dispute regarding the appointment of a director of football is said to be a key factor in the decision.

News that Chris Wilder is expected to leave @SheffieldUnited today.

Sheffield United are currently bottom of the Premier League, 12 points from safety after 28 games as they've struggled to replicate last season's success.
But news suggests that it's not results that are behind Wilder's sudden departure, but rather a fallout with the club's board over the owners' desire to appoint a director of football, above the manager's position.
Chris Wilder obviously did a fantastic job, but you can see why Sheffield United want someone to help oversee transfers if he had full control. The three strikers signed for £50m have played 48 Premier League games this season and scored one goal.

Chris Wilder will always be a Sheffield United legend. His place in the clubs history is secure. If this is the end today, then it's a real shame.

While there seemed relatively little pressure on Wilder given all that he's achieved at the club and the immense support he retains with the majority of fans, there has been criticism that the club's transfer record over the past 12 months has not been a success.
Rhian Brewster might be the most prominent example of this, as the forward signed for a reported £23.5 million from Liverpool has failed to score in any of the 22 games he's played for Sheffield United.
If the owners believe that handing over transfer decisions to a director of football above the manager is part of the plan going forward, it could have led to a dispute with Wilder over his exact role at the club.

As a blade I’m gutted! Best manager we’ve ever had and the fans wanted him to stay and take us back up next season.
Chris Wilder is the latest case of a manager doing supremely well for so long, defying convention and exceeding expectations only to be sacked because, well, miracles don't last forever.

He took charge of Sheffield United in 2016 when they were in League One.
Whatever happens going forward, Wilder's place as one of the best managers in Sheffield United's modern history seems assured.
