Ex Al Ahly defender claims Pitso Mosimane is better than Rene Weiler

Former Al Ahly defender Sherif Abdel-Fadil insists Pitso Mosimane is a superior coach to his predecessor Rene Weiler despite his recent blip in the CAF Champions League.

With different levels of expectations at the Club of the Century, the defeat against Simba was highly criticised by former players and pundits in Egypt while a meeting was called by president Mahmoud El-Khatib on Friday.

Mosimane's immediate success at the club after leading them to a treble since his arrival in October last year has reaffirmed his credentials as one of the best on the continent at the Cairo derby win the Champions League final will long be remembered by the Red Devils faithful.

But Abdel-Fadil suggested to On-Time sports that Mosimane is generally a 'better' tactician than Weiler based on the structure that's been evident since his arrival from Mamelodi Sundowns - but shouldn't be devoid of criticism.

"Al-Ahly's defeat against Simba was not expected. Al Ahly is a champion and he should play like one, but Mosimane has surprised us all with his defensive strength since then," he said.

"Simba's players have very great skills and [are] very fast, and the coach applied a distinctive plan, they completely exhausted Al Ahly by playing large parts of the game passing in midfield."

The record nine-time African Champions are third-place in Group A after two games ahead of their next group stage clash against Linafoot giants AS Vita Club.
