'The World’s 50 Best Football Clubs From The Past Decade Have Been Named And Ranked

The world's most successful club sides from the past decade have been named and ranked by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.

European clubs dominate the IFFHS ranking from 2011 to 2020, with Barcelona finishing top, narrowly ahead of their rivals Real Madrid. There are six Premier League sides inside the top 20, with Chelsea and Manchester City the joint highest placed.

The IFFHS have complied all of their Club World Rankings from the past decade and given each team points based on their finishing position. Barcelona have topped the ranking three times (2011, 2012 and 2015), while Real Madrid have done so twice.

Bayern Munich - who finished first in the Club World Ranking for 2020 - finish third overall, while Paris Saint-Germain are rewarded for their consistent domestic domination by sneaking into fourth.

The highest non-European side are Brazilian giants Gremio in 14th - but it's a surprise to see no Premier League clubs above seventh on the list.

That's largely due to the fluctuating nature of England's top flight with no one team dominating. Man City (seventh) have won the most domestic trophies, but Chelsea (also seventh) have also won two Premier League titles in that timespan plus a Champions League in 2012.

Manchester United are ninth, Arsenal are a surprisingly high 10th - while Liverpool are as low as 17th (below Tottenham in 15th.

Pretty shocking until you realise the ranking rewards consistency from 2011 to 2020. So Jurgen Klopp's side's success in the last three years can't make up for how poorly Liverpool underperformed for the first half of the decade.

Celtic are 11th and narrowly squeezed out of the top 10 by only seven points. The battle for Argentina is won by River Plate in 22nd - just one spot above their fierce rivals Boca Juniors in 23rd.
