'Philippe Coutinho Opens Up About His Feelings On Liverpool's Success

Philippe Coutinho could be forgiven for thinking 'what went wrong' when he looks back on his move from Liverpool to Barcelona, but the midfielder says he's only looking forward.

When the Spanish champions first wanted to sign Coutinho is the summer of 2017 he was considered by most as Liverpool's best player and one the club couldn't afford to lose but he eventually left for £105 million the following January.

Since then Jurgen Klopp's side have become European and world champions and will soon be Premier League champions too, whilst Coutinho is struggling on loan at Bayern Munich, having never shown his best form for Barca.

The 27-year-old though has no regrets about leaving though. "I don't look back. I took another path, and now I am on another journey, much like everyone else," the midfielder told Sports Illustrated.

"I'm focused entirely - just like them - on reaching my dreams. I'm happy with what I did in the past, and now I can only look forward."

On Liverpool's current success the former Inter Milan midfielder added, "Liverpool is flying, and it doesn't surprise me.

"We've seen it already last year when they won the Champions League, but I'm also not surprised because of their fantastic squad and manager.

"I am so happy for them, because I have so many friends there, former team-mates, so I'm just so happy for them, but that's all."

Since leaving the Premier League, Coutinho has won two La Liga titles with Barca, but the Catalan giants had all but won the first of those.

Liverpool reached the Champions League final later in the season after the Brazilian left, whilst he couldn't play for his new club in the competition, and then won it a year later.

Now Klopp's side are on the verge of winning their first league title for 30 years, although Coutinho could add a Bundesliga title to his list of honours this season too.

This season Coutinho is on loan to Bayern Munich and the Germans have an option to buy but it looks increasingly likely that he will return to the Camp Nou at the end of the campaign.

The former Espanyol player has only started 12 games in the league this season, although he does have six goals and six assists, and Bayern are believed to prefer a move for Kai Havertz in the summer.

Barca are willing to sell for a reported £77 million in the summer and hope to attract interest. Coutinho says he's looking forward but Liverpool would certainly not be a backwards step.
