'Premier League Launch Official Hall Of Fame Opening In March

The Premier League has confirmed its plan to launch a Hall of Fame, with the first two entrants to be named on Thursday March 19th.

In a statement the Premier League said, "Membership of the Premier League Hall of Fame will be the highest individual honour awarded to players by the League."

The first two entrants will be selected by the league, and announced next month whilst there will also be a fan vote to decide the next players to go in.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said, "Since 1992, the Premier League has been home to world-class players who have defined generations and provided us with compelling football season after season.

"A place in the Premier League Hall of Fame is reserved for the very best. It will be an occasion for our fans around the world to look back over the years and help us celebrate some truly exceptional playing careers."

Players must have been retired to be considered and only their time in England's top tier will be considered as part of them going into the Hall of Fame.

Every player who goes into the HoF will get an engraved medallion and the first two inductees will go in during a special event.

It's a shame that no managers will be included considering the impact the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, and many others, have had on the league.

There will be lots of speculation as who the first two men into the Hall of Fame will be and the choices will no doubt be debated no matter who gets in.

Alan Shearer seems like an obvious first choice to go in considering the former Newcastle United striker is still the leagues all time goalscorer and won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers.

Ryan Giggs is also a good candidate to be awarded as one of the first people. The former Manchester United winger won 13 titles, more than anyone else, and has more assists than anyone else too.

The likes of Thierry Henry, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Eric Cantona and Steven Gerrard will be amongst the favourites to be inducted.
