Floyd 'Money' Mayweather wants to prove exactly why he got his nickname and buy Newcastle United off of Mike Ashley.
Ashley has reportedly been trying to sell the club for the last few years, always just before or during a transfer window, and he may have found his man.
In an Q&A on Sunday the former five weight world boxing champions Mayweather revealed he's 'very interested' in buying the Premier League club.
"In the U.S. we call it soccer, but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team," the 43-year-old told the moderator when asked if he was interested in buying the Magpies, "A hell of a team.
"If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team, let me know," before the crowd cheered.
TMZ Sports reported on the incident and later range Mayweather's representatives to see if the 50-0 boxer was being serious.
According to the report the American is interested in the buying a stake in the team, no mention of how much of it, but no formal talks have taken place just yet.
It's not even the first time that 'Pretty Boy' has been linked with the club. In March 2018 the boxer said, "You better believe if I were to invest in Newcastle I would be back partying there often.
"I love Newcastle. Those guys like to party as hard as any city I have been to anywhere in the world. I met some of the players last year - and they are good guys. I am always open to new business opportunities and I love all sports, but I invest with my head not my heart.
"Investing with your heart is the quickest way to lose money. But if somebody put together a business plan and my people looking over it and went 'Floyd that can make money' then I would invest. Soccer might not be my game but I've got connections everywhere."
Ashley was reportedly on the brink of selling the club to a Saudi Arabian buying in January but talks of that seem to have died since.
Mayweather is well known for splashing the cash, with the former boxer often showing off about the cars and planes that he has bought, but a Premier League football team would be a whole new level of spending.
According to reports he is worth anywhere between $560 million and $1 billion, whereas current Newcastle owner Ashley is reportedly worth $3.2 billion.
'Money' could have even more cash to spend soon. He is due to come out of retirement once again and has claimed he would only fight Conor McGregor or Khabib Nurmagomedov, two potential competitors, for $600 million,
Newcastle took a step in the right direction in their own fight at the weekend, as they battle to stay in the Premier League and against relegation.
Steve Bruce's side beat Southampton 1-0 on the south coast, thanks to Allan Saint-Maximin's 79th minute winner, to leave them eight points above the gap with nine games to play.
