'Leeds' Twitter Account Calls Out Pundit Who Claims They Were “Promoted Because Of Covid-19”

Leeds United's Twitter account has called out Amazon Prime pundit Karen Carney after she said the club were "promoted because of Covid-19."

Marcelo Bielsa's side romped to a 5-0 over West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening, with their intensity on and off the ball being a key talking point.

Carney spoke after the game and said: "They outrun everyone and credit to them. My only concern would be, will they blow up at the end of the season like the last couple of seasons.

"I actually think they got promoted because of Covid in terms of it giving them a bit of respite. I don't know if they'd have got up if they didn't have that break."

Leeds' official Twitter caught wind of the clip and had their own message for former England international Carney.

They said: "Promoted because of Covid [thinking emoji.] Won the league by 10 points [smiling emoji.] Hi @primevideosport [waving emoji.]"

The Lilywhites won the Championship last season and finished with 93 points, 10 ahead of second placed West Brom on 83 points.

Leeds fans have reacted to the comments and they couldn't disagree more given their form last campaign.

A bizarre Romaine Sawyers own goal set Leeds off against the Baggies before Ezgjan Alioski, Jack Harrison and Rodrigo made it 4-0 before half-time.

The second half saw less goalmouth action, but Raphinha managed to bend in a lovely fifth to seal victory.

Leeds are up to 11th in the table, while West Brom remain in the relegation zone.
