Arsenal 'target Sevilla's Joan Jordan in £32million January move'

Arsenal have a mountain to climb to salvage something from the 2020-21 season, so Mikel Arteta is eyeing-up Sevilla's Juan Jordan to help them recover.

The north Londoners beat rivals Chelsea on Boxing Day in a huge boost for Arteta, whose side were on a humiliating seven-game winless run in the Premier League, leaving them still 15th.

Arteta will hope to build on the derby confidence boost in 2021, and wants to inject life into the Gunners midfield with a new playmaker.

Juan Jordan has been impressing at Sevilla, and Arteta is keen on a move for the £32million rated Spaniard in January, according to the Sun.

The midfielder has a £55million release clause on his deal but the LaLiga side are interested in offers below that mark.

Jordan was a key-man in the Sevilla side who won last season's Europa League and finished fourth in the Spanish first-tier, starring in their final victory against Inter Milan.

The midfielder could be just what Arsenal need to begin finding more chances, having scored just 15 goals this season.

Arteta's midfield is a key issue, with Granit Xhaka one of the under-performers during Arsenal's grim run, while Dani Ceballos has never lived-up to the hype generated by his stunning debut against Burnley last season.

New signing Thomas Partey is also battling injuries, and Arsenal badly need to begin picking-up points to avoid an embarrassing end to the campaign.
