Manchester United are set to make a move for Diego Godin in the summer, just a year after he moved to Italy to sign for Inter, according to reports.
The 34-year-old centre back has long been a target of the Old Trafford club, with Jose Mourinho attempting to sign him when he was in charge, and he finally left Atletico Madrid last summer to join Inter.
However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Antonio Conte no longer wants the defender, who has apparently failed to adapt to the manager's system, and United are interested in signing him once again.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reportedly interested in him when his contract in Spain came to an end last season but it was a long known secret that he would be moving to the San Siro, even before Conte's appointment.
The United boss reportedly wants to add more experience to his defence. At the moment United's first choice defenders haven't played too much in Europe's elite competition, the Champions League.
Solskjaer is also yet to find the perfect partner alongside Harry Maguire with Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe all in the discussion.
Phil Jones' poor performance against Sheffield United earlier in the season looks to have ruled him out of a permanent place alongside Maguire whilst Chris Smalling could stay at Roma following a so far successful loan spell this season.
In the past the Red Devils have also been linked with Kalidou Koulibaly, amongst other high profile defenders, but the Napoli man is more likely to cost in the £100 million region.
Godin's contract might not be up for another year but Inter are unlikely to ask for too much money, considering they signed him for free and want rid, and their relationship with United is pretty good after deals for Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young in the past year.
No one knows right now how either the Premier League or Serie A will finish with everything currently suspended due to Covid-19.
United are still fighting to qualify for next season's Champions League but Inter's hopes of winning the league title seem to have disappeared after their Derby d'Italia defeat to Juventus just before the league was suspended.
