Fabio Cannavaro spent three seasons at Real Madrid, racking up over 100 games for the club, and the former centre-back is hoping to one day return to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to coach Los Blancos.
The Italian has spent his coaching career to date in the United Arab Emirates, China and Saudi Arabia, while he is currently in charge of Chinese giants Guangzhou Evergrande.
"If you want to be a coach, you have to think about the top," Cannavaro told Madridista Real.
"And the top is Real Madrid, it's the Italian national team or some big club in Europe.
"I am working for the day to come [when I can] coach a club like Real Madrid."
In terms of his footballing philosophy, Cannavaro provided an insight into what he expects from his players.
"I'm a coach who asks the players to play, a coach who asks to give intensity with and without the ball, because football is about time and the players have to understand that," he said.
"If I'm tense when I don't have the ball, I take time away from the opponent."
