Manchester United completing the shock re-signing of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer 'would not be a surprise' according says to a top European club chief.
The 35-year-old has been linked with a move away from current club Juventus due to their current financial issues brought on by the coronavirus outbreak.
His wages are a huge £510,000 per week in Turin and Juventus may not be able to pay them in full due to the pandemic.
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has claimed a European club's director would not be shocked to see United move for their former number seven this summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Balague explained per The Sun: "Interestingly I was told by a director of football of a top club in Europe: 'How about if Manchester United decide to go for him?"
"And I said: 'No, that cannot be possible, they actually are putting the money somewhere else, they are looking for a different type of player'.
"But he told me: 'I wouldn't be surprised'.
"However, I would pass on that one. I would be surprised."
Ronaldo spent six years at Old Trafford before departing for Real Madrid in 2009 and he's remembered as one of the club's greatest ever players.
However, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has revealed that the Red Devils' next transfer window likely won't be 'business as usual' due to the current climate.

Meanwhile, the topic of Ronaldo making a return to the Spanish capital was shot down immediately by Balague.
"The simple answer is no," the Spaniard said of Ronaldo returning to 'Los Blancos'.
"Real Madrid are not after Ronaldo, they are looking for a different type of profile.
"They want to invest their money, wages, into a different type of player. So no.
"Secondly, I think [the story] came off the back of the struggles at Juventus who asked the players to reduce their wages, which they did.
"And as a consequence - also of coronavirus - they realised they may actually have to get rid of some of the players.
"Of course the one they spend more money on is Ronaldo.
"So somebody close to Juventus left that little bomb out there if anybody wants Ronaldo he may be available."
