'VAR Could Be Scrapped By UEFA Due To Social Distancing

The use of VAR in European football could be halted due to coronavirus.

Social distancing isn't exactly being carried out if there are multiple people inside a small VAR control room watching over decisions and, according to RMC Sport, the executive committee of UEFA are to discuss whether or not to persist with the technology for the remainder of the season.

The next meeting for European football's governing body is to take place on Thursday and will determine whether or not VAR is used in the Champions League and the Europa League.

In regards to the Premier League, it's been reported by Martin Lipton from The Sun that referees may have to move from the usual Stockley Park base to a mobile unit.

Having 30 people close together in a small room checking over the many games that take place throughout the day is not in line with government guidelines and so alternative plans may have to drawn up.

It appears as though the most likely solution is to have mobile vans containing the three-person team outside the car parks of stadiums.

This has only happened for one game in England - during Manchester City's 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final second leg win over Burton Albion last term.
