Vidal 'interested in signing for Newcastle if they hire Max Allegri'

Newcastle United could be set to launch a shock bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Chilean international is reportedly set to leave the Nou Camp this summer, and Steve Bruce's side could be set to fight Manchester United and Inter Milan for his signature.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Vidal is giving serious consideration to a Premier League proposal, but it is not from Old Trafford.

The report states that Vidal sees Newcastle as having a 'very attractive growth plan,' and would be interested in joining the club if they were to replace Bruce with his old Juventus boss Max Allegri.

On the other hand, he is reportedly 'unconvinced' by Manchester United's plans for the future.

Vidal's contract at Barcelona is set to expire in June 2021, so a sale this summer at a reduced price seems likely.

Earlier this week bookmakers slashed the odds of Allegri becoming the next Newcastle manager, as the club's £350m takeover moves closer to completion.

The Italian left Juventus at the end of last season and has been out of work ever since.

Magpies' owner Mike Ashley is in talks with a group led by Amanda Staveley to sell the club after 13 years in charge.

If the takeover was to go through, the ambitious prospective buyers are thought to want a big name to replace Bruce, with former manager Rafa Benitez also reportedly in contention.

Vidal has never played in England, having spent his career with Colo Colo, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus and Bayern Munich before joining the Nou Camp.

Should Newcastle make a move, their fiercest rivals could come in Italian giants Inter Milan.

Inter's manager Antonio Conte has also worked with Vidal at Juventus, and the Chilean could be included in any attempt from Barcelona to sign striker Lautaro Martinez.

Vidal played three seasons at Juventus under Conte before spending his final season at the club playing for Allegri.
