Utd 'open Konate talks' despite RB Leipzig defender's injury-hit season

Ibrahima Konate has endured a frustrating season at RB Leipzig, but his injury trouble has not blocked the possibility of a huge Manchester United move.

The defender has made just seven appearances all season, forcing him to watch from the sidelines since early October as Leipzig mounted a title challenge.

However, the 20-year-old was first-choice for Julien Nagelsmann's side at the start of the campaign, helping them to an unbeaten first five games of the Bundesliga campaign.

Konate was central to a defence that conceded just 29 goals in the German top-flight last season - the least in the division - and qualify for a Champions League spot.

United saw enough then to justify their interest, and Konate's agent is in talks with the club about a summer move, according to Le 10 Sport.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has preferred skipper Harry Maguire paired with Victor Lindelof at centre-back, a partnership that has seen them turn their stuttering form in the first half of the campaign around.
