No, each is the player who leads his Premier League team out, proudly shakes hands with Mike Dean (other referees are available), calls the toss and usually gets called across when the manager wants someone to shout at.

Some are given the honour because of longevity, organisational skill or integrity. Others are simply the best player and the club give them an armband in the desperate hope they won't put in a transfer request - 'the Steven Gerrard captaincy' as it's formally known.
