'Manchester United Legend Paul Scholes Gives His Verdict On David De Gea's Future

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has backed David de Gea to find his form again - insisting "he'll be back."

The Spaniard made the headlines over the weekend after a poor performance helped Chelsea defeat the Red Devils 3-1 in their FA Cup semi-final clash.

De Gea saw Mason Mount's strike just after half-time bounce off his wrists and into the net to double The Blues' lead.

Many have called for de Gea to be dropped from the starting lineup, but Scholes has offered his support.

He stated: "Yep he's having a bad time... but without him Utd wouldn't have finished in the top 10 the last 6yrs... he'll be back!"

Scholes played with de Gea for two years before his retirement and saw the 29-year-old mature into one of the world's top keepers

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been vocal in his support of de Gea since taking charge, but some believe Sergio Romero deserves to start the final two games of the season.

Dean Henderson is also in fine form on loan at Sheffield United with many thinking he could be a regular starter next season.

However, Solskjaer refuse to be drawn into a debate about de Gea's future.

Speaking ahead of United's clash with West Ham on Wednesday, the Norwegian said:

"This is not going to become a David de Gea press conference. We've got two games and we need to just focus on that. David is mentally strong enough to know that his job is to perform in training the next day and then be ready for the games.

"That's your job to talk about and write about.

"It's my job to prepare the team for West Ham and that's what we're doing.

"I'm just focusing on that one and we're not going to talk about individuals. No one here is going to feel that we're putting more pressure on them."

Do you think David de Gea is still good enough to be Manchester United's number one goalkeeper?
