VAR will be staying in the Premier League next season, with some alterations to the current use in England's top tier, with clubs voting in favour of full FIFA protocols.
It's crazy to think that VAR was only introduced to the Premier League for the beginning of the 2019/20 season, especially considering how many headlines its stolen since then.
The controversial video assistant refereeing system has had its good moments, and many not so good ones, and it's now here to stay.
Full FIFA protocols means that refs will use the screens more, which most will see as a positive, and goalkeeper coming off their line for a penalty even slightly will be punished, a change to how the Premier League had been using the law, amongst other things.
2) Goalkeeper encroachment on penalty kicks - this will now be enforced fully by the VAR, even if a keeper is marginally off his line. UEFA, Bundesliga and PL had not been enforcing this.

3) Player encroachment on penalty kicks - as per my tweets this morning (see image) pic.twitter.com/F9Be94teBD
What we don't know yet is what FIFA has had to say about the Premier League's interpretation of the defensive handball law via VAR, which is most definitely different to every other major league and competition.

There will be a LOT more penalties if that changes.
Other countries had previously accepted the laws on referees coming off their line even slightly as part of VAR but the Premier League was more lenient on it.
The new rules will likely lead to more spot kicks being retaken, and it'll be the same for players encroaching on in the penalty box.
Minor offsides has been one of the biggest criticisms of the system, with many getting annoyed at how slight the decision has looked and often players being offside by an armpit.
Those decisions have been defended by others saying that 'it doesn't matter how far offside you are' and fans will have to get used to that.
According to reports yesterday though, the lines will stop being shown on television as has been the case elsewhere in Europe.
Gary Lineker clearly wasn't too impressed by the new set of protocols for next season.
It’s not the accuracy of the decisions they’re worried about, it’s protecting their inaccuracies. https://t.co/Fx3GS7NoCU

VAR is here to stay but we'll have to get used to a few new nuances to the system, that may end up annoying us even more.
What do you think of the changes to VAR? Let us know in the comments.
