An incredible Twitter thread has detailed why Manchester United fans are so frustrated with their current direction - and it is down to much more than a lack of signings.
United fans have become irate on social media this summer after only making one signing, Donny van de Beek from Ajax.
A deal for Jadon Sancho seems to have stalled and Sky Sports' Transfer Centre think that is where Red Devils fan's frustration comes from.
However, Chris Winterburn hit back with a detailed thread that outlines why United fans are frustrated with "continued lies, mixed messaging and general incompetence."
What a pathetically one-sided and ill-informed segment. Manchester United fans could care less about Jadon Sancho/whichever player they are linked with as individual cases. Their frustration is with the continued lies, mixed messages and general incompetence which comes from... https://t.co/StUO6hGQbA

Winterburn hits back at claims the coronavirus pandemic has impacted United's summer business, explaining it would have played out the exact same way as the last seven transfer windows.

A lack of footballing structure is lamented as the club still have no sporting director.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and chief transfer negotiator Matt Judge have been in the roles for some time, but are deemed to be under-qualified as 'footballing men.'
Javier Ribalta was United's head scout for just one year before becoming sporting director at Russian side Zenit.
This is despite numerous reports that United have been looking for their own sporting director for several years.
An incredibly qualified football person with contacts and a CV bolstered by great work at Juventus was at the club, yet left for a Sporting Director role at Zenit. There is no more attainable, qualified candidate for such a role than Ribalta. Yet he wasn’t listened to and he was

The thread ends explaining that United fans express their anger due to how their club has been mismanaged in recent years, not at the lack of a big money signing.
The aforementioned poorly expressed media/tv segments present a view of fans of United, Arsenal, Barcelona, West Ham, Newcastle etc as sets of ungrateful idiots who simply want signings, but never actually look at why they are deeply frustrated.
