'Jamie Carragher Explains Main Concern Over Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz hasn't had a great start to his Chelsea career, after two quiet games, and Jamie Carragher admitted he's worried the German doesn't fit in to the team.

The German didn't arrive to Stamford Bridge until just a few weeks before the season started, after drawn out transfer negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen, but was put straight into the starting line up against Brighton in the Blues opening game.

He played on the right for much of the game and, other than one mocked attempted pass, didn't make much of an impression as Frank Lampard's side won 3-1.

On Sunday Havertz started against Liverpool as the central forward in the front three but was taken off at half-time for Fikayo Tomori, following Andreas Christensen's sending off, having not made much impact on the game.

Speaking at full time, Sky Sports pundit, and former Liverpool defender, Carragher said that he's worried Havertz doesn't fit into the 4-3-3 Lampard usually plays.

"I do look and think, 'where does Havertz play? Where does he fit into a 4-3-3? He almost looks like a No10 and we don't see them as much in football now. Where he played today, I don't think that suited Chelsea."

Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp defended the 21-year-old, saying, "You've got to give Havertz time.We have to be careful. We're judging a player. You've got (Christian) Pulisic and (Hakim) Ziyech to come in.

"I think Havertz is a number 10. With the three they played in midfield today, you need a bit more craft.

"Are we sitting here and questioning Havertz, he's been here two minutes."

But Carragher was quick to point out he wasn't questioning the player's ability and was suggesting that Lampard will have to adapt his system to get the best out of the £72 million signing.

Havertz cost Chelsea as much as goalkeeper Kepa and fans will be hoping he's nowhere near the flop the goalie is, with the Spaniard once again making a high profile error on Sunday.
