Bruno Fernandes has finally missed a penalty after a ridiculous record of converting from 12 yards.
The Portuguese international had scored ten consecutive penalties using a whole host of different techniques since joining Manchester United in January but was denied at the eleventh attempt by Newcastle United's Karl Darlow.
Marcus Rashford won a penalty for United following a VAR review and you would have fancied Fernandes to do the business from the spot.
But his perfect record has come to an end. Prior to his miss tonight, the last goalkeeper to thwart the former Sporting CP man was Miguel Soares during a cup tie vs Loures in October 2018.
He is now a property consultant as well as a player with Pero Pinheiro.
"The save was a great moment. The secret was the small movement I made to the left," he told the Daily Star.
"Bruno looks at the keeper when he takes a penalty, so I did the same to him. I feigned to dive to the left, and went to the right.
"I wanted to make Bruno take his decision as late as possible. I didn't want to make his life easier.
"We took Sporting all the way to extra time, and still gave them a scare before they won 2-1."
His last miss in a league game was a whopping 1659 days ago for Udinese against Napoli in Serie A and he went on to score a total of 18 in a row after it.
