Virgil van Dijk was forced off the pitch after sustaining a suspected leg injury following a horrific tackle from Jordan Pickford.
The Everton keeper clattered into the Liverpool defender in the early stages during the Merseyside derby.
Pickford clumsily tackled Van Dijk who had to be substituted.
The England international did NOT receive a card due to Van Dijk being offside.
Needless to say, the incident involving Pickford and Van Dijk sent social media wild.
One Twitter user wrote: "I don't even understand the rules of football anymore how can that not be a red card?"
A second tweeted: "Kick/punch an opponent and get away with it cause it was offside... some of these rules."
A third added: "Even if Van Dijk is offside, does that give Pickford a licence to chop Van Dijk?"
Surely that rule needs looking at? Everton have come out of that situation with a net positive? Keep 11 men on the pitch despite Pickford's awful challenge, still only 1-0 down, but also now against a Liverpool side without Van Dijk #EVELIV

Pathetic how they haven’t sent Pickford off for that. That’s worth 3 goals losing Van Dijk. Embarrassing.

That’s an absolutely horrific challenge from Pickford... Van Dijk is so so lucky to not break his leg there... dreadful

Pickford could’ve easily torn Van Dijk’s ACL there. Cynical challenge.

Joe Gomez replaced the injured Van Dijk with the Reds then conceding a goal after taking the lead through Sadio Mane.
