Leicester City fans are no doubt fuming after they were not awarded a penalty at Anfield.
Liverpool defender Joel Matip clearly handled the ball in the area and James Maddison appealed to the referee straight away.
But despite his protestations and what we can only assume was an incredibly brief VAR check, the Cameroonian was let off the hook.
That has to be the clearest handball this weekend uno pic.twitter.com/WdejJu3IJC

Should Joel Matip have been penalised for this handball? 🤔#LIVLEI pic.twitter.com/wvqrpY1SOV

Given the amount of harsh handballs we've seen this season following on from the tweaking of the rule, fans were baffled as to how a spot-kick was not given.
Just seen Matip’s handball... That’s the clearest penalty you’ll ever see lmao

Is it just me or was that a clear handball on Matip?

I also thought 100% that Gomez against City wasn’t a penalty
There shouldn’t be this much of a grey area over the handball rule when the people officiating matches are as incompetent as they are
Matip playing volleyball in the box, VAR checked it and no pen given.

Does anyone know the handball rule anymore?
Somebody explain. What counts as a handball these days? I mean that Matip handball didnt really impact the game too much but i've seen Penalties been given for less

Incredible that Matip’s handball was dismissed so quickly there. Especially after what happened yesterday. Got away with one. #LIVLEI

VAR: No handball. pic.twitter.com/YGSzpt55Gm
That Matip handball has to be given as a penalty considering what we've seen them given for this season

Eric Dier hit on the back of the arm while looking the other way = pen

Matip literally clears it away with his hand = no pen https://t.co/nk1UEXbUH7
The call just further highlights the inconsistencies with what is and isn't deemed to be handball in the Premier League.
Liverpool went 1-0 up in the 21st minute after Jonny Evans headed into his own net from a James Milner corner.
Diogo Jota then extended the lead just before half-time, continuing his electric run of scoring in every home Premier League appearance this term by notching the second after a cross from Andy Robertson from the left.
