Modric to become Real Madrid's fourth oldest outfield player

When Luka Modric's new contract expires, on June 30, 2022, the Croatian will be 36 years, nine months and 21 days old, making him the seventh oldest player in Real Madrid's history.

It's a dream come true for Modric, who wants to keep extending his deal as his body allows him to continue playing, as it is currently.

The former Tottenham man has always said that he wants to retire at Real Madrid and that means at least one more contract renewal.

He wants to play in the Qatar World Cup in November of 2022, meaning he'll need a club for 2022/23 to enable him to stay in shape and he hopes that club will be Real Madrid.

But, if not, he would still become the club's seventh oldest player.

The oldest is Ferenc Puskas, who played his final game at 39 years, one month and seven days of age, the closest player to reach 40.

Then, Paco Buyo played at the age of 38 years, two months and three days and Jerzy Dudek played at 38 years, one month and 24 days, all retiring at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The fourth oldest is a club legend, Alfredo di Stefano, who didn't retire at Real Madrid but who played his last game at the age of 37 years, 10 months and 23 days, just ahead of Paco Gento at 37 years and seven months.

Outside the top five, Miguel Angel bid his farewell at 37 years, five months and seven days.

Modric will be nearly 37 when his contact ends and he'll be the fourth oldest outfield player behind only Puskas, Gento and Di Stefano.
