'Roy Keane’s Comments On Ole Gunnar Solskjaer And Frank Lampard Resurface And He Wasn't Wrong

Manchester United legend Roy Keane correctly predicted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'needed more time' when he was compared to Frank Lampard during a heated debate in January.

The Red Devils are currently fourth and are five points adrift from Premier League leaders Liverpool, though United do have a match in hand.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are sixth in the league table and one point behind United, but the Blues have played two more matches than the Red Devils.

Speaking in January, Keane entered into a heated debate with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher after United's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last season.

The 49-year-old former United captain was astonished at the criticism Solskjaer received at the time, despite Lampard receiving praise when his side had lost eight matches.

"Give Ole a bit of time," Keane said. "How long has Ole been in the job? Give the man a chance.

"I watched Chelsea last night, they're a decent team, but they couldn't get the job done.

"Lampard has lost eight games, but for some reason 'Frank's doing alright.' Maybe because he's English, I don't know."

Carragher pointed out that Lampard's Chelsea side were ahead of United with their transfer ban in place at the time, but Keane wasted no time in blasting the Blues boss' resume.

"Look at Frank's track record and CV," he said. "He went to Derby and didn't get promoted, but Frank's got all the answers for Chelsea. He hasn't. Give him time. It's nothing to do with Ole and all this carry on.

"And the three managers before Ole, are you saying they don't know what the game is about, Jamie? They know what the game is about."

When Liverpool legend Carragher asked Keane how much time Solskjaer would need, the former Nottingham Forest star responded: "I'd give Ole certainly another year. One hundred per cent -- another year."

United would finish above Chelsea in the league table last season -- level on points -- and once again find themselves above the London club in the table this season.

United will return to Premier League action at 8pm UK time today against Wolves at Old Trafford.

Chelsea played their final match of 2020 on Monday as they were held to a 1-1 draw to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
