Simba top Group A with victory over Al Ahly

A single goal from Luis Miquissone handed Simba a 1-0 win over Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League, Group A match at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Tuesday.

The win is Simba’s second in as many games and sees them at the top of Group A with six points, followed by AS Vita Club (on three points) who beat Al-Merrikh 4-1 also on Tuesday.

The loss for Al Ahly is their first in the Champions League group standings and sees them in third place with three points.

The match itself was not the most entertaining with both teams rather poor in the final third of the field. Both were able to create some decent scoring chances throughout the match, but they were both woeful in front of goal.

Statistically, Simba had nine shots on goal in total with only four of those on target while Al Ahly had ten shots of which only one troubled the goalkeeper.

The difference between the sides on the day came down to a goal from Miquissone on the half hour mark. The Simba striker did well to work himself into space and drove an unstoppable shot past the keeper from just inside the box.

Other than that, the game was a rather dull affair. Simba, though, will be happy to pick up the win as they look towards their next encounter against Al-Merrikh in the beginning of March while Al Ahly will face AS Vita.
