Hunt admits Chiefs players battling mental fatigue

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt admits his side are suffering from mental fatigue ahead of Saturday’s Soweto Derby in the DStv Premiership against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium.

It has been a tough campaign for the AmaKhosi, with their latest result a tepid goalless draw against Petro Atletico in the Caf Champions League on Tuesday.

Hunt will have to raise his players for Saturday’s derby, where they are seeking to end a run of three straight defeats against their bitter rivals, and avoid a record fourth.

"You can see there's a bit of mental fatigue with all the playing and travelling but they [the players] gave me their all,” Hunt told reporters following the draw in Luanda.

"The most important thing is they're fighting, they're working and doing their best and that's the most important thing. You can't fault the players.

“It looked a real tired performance from both sides so I think the draw was a fair result. We're obviously disappointed but you've got to take many things into consideration so I think the team did well.”

Hunt admits his side will just have to “get through” Saturday’s clash with Pirates before most can enjoy a break with the Fifa window giving them some time off.

"I think we've been going now for a good few months and you can see it's starting now to take effect, we've got to get through the weekend and then we need a break,” he said.

"That's for sure, we need a break, you can see it so we have one last push for the weekend and then we have the Fifa break and I think that's going to help us just to revitalise us a bit.”
