Fans think Brighton were denied a penalty against Manchester United after Harry Maguire's challenge on Danny Welbeck.
The Premier League game was poised at 1-1 in the second half when Neal Maupay's cross narrowly evaded Welbeck as he tried to get a touch. Maguire made contact behind him and Welbeck immediately appealed for a penalty, claiming he'd been pulled back.
Mike Dean did not point to the spot, however - and a following VAR review did not give him the referee any reason to reconsider.
If this isn’t a pen, and isn’t overturned by #VAR what on earth is the point of the whole system. He scores if maguire doesn’t pull him back. pic.twitter.com/kuqsN4xEir

Yes, that should have been a pen. If Maguire didn't do anything, Welbeck probably would have slid and poked it in pic.twitter.com/ZD9XrZoMec

However football fans on Twitter were quick to disagree, pointing to the clear physical contact between Maguire and Welbeck that may have stopped the former Man United striker getting to the ball.
The end result was a 2-1 victory for Manchester United as Mason Greenwood pounced with a header, 10 minutes later, to give the hosts all three points. However many were still pointing to the United captain's contact with Welbeck as the game's big turning point.
Harry Maguire allowed to foul Danny Welbeck when clean through on goal with no penalty or card. VAR decidons have given Manchester United four extra points in games against Brighton and Hove Albion alone this season. #MUNBHA https://t.co/U8V8rQpM2m pic.twitter.com/goPi8jYOeO

Wasn’t it Maguire that complained Utd weren’t getting VAR decisions anymore? Well they got one there. That was a nailed on pen for Welbeck.

NONE of these three incidents from Harry Maguire were given as fouls by VAR. Not one.

Welbeck actually opened the scoring against his old club, putting Brighton in the lead inside the first 15 minutes. Maupay put in an excellent cross from the right wing, Welbeck met it with a header and - although Dean Henderson pulled off a fine reaction save - the ball went right back to Welbeck, who nodded into the net at the second attempt.
How anyone can say we haven’t robbed by Mike Dean again! #bhafc #MUNBHA pic.twitter.com/EH4SxpJuuA

VAR says no penalty and no card for Harry Maguire for his challenge on Welbeck. You lucky lucky boys...

Manchester United had more possession in the first half, but - aside from a Greenwood shot which struck the post while the game was at 0-0 - it was Brighton who boasted the better chances.
The home side finally sprung into life just after the hour mark. Bruno Fernandes played in Marcus Rashford with a precise pass, the striker opened up his body and made no mistake with a fine finish across goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Henderson does well to stop the first effort, but there's no stopping the second 💪

Bruno Fernandes doing all the work, drawing defenders (and the foul 🙃), leaving the finish to United's No. 1️⃣0️⃣
Great finish, and game on 🤝 pic.twitter.com/sHvKZRbumw

Less than ten minutes to go, the United youngster stays on his toes to put United in front 💪

Then came the controversial incident between Maguire and Welbeck, before Greenwood's late goal ensured a 2-1, come-from-behind win for United at Old Trafford.
