Angry football fans have urged the Premier League to dock points from the 'big six' over their involvement in the widely condemned European Super League.
The European Super League was met with widespread backlash from fans and denounced by the likes of FIFA, UEFA and the Premier League.
Only days after its initial announcement, The Super League's ambitions were effectively over as the Premier League's big six withdrew from the competition.
Despite Premier League teams' withdrawal, the controversy over the European Super League will have both short- and long-term effects on the sport.
Fans on social media have expressed their desire to see the big six hit with point deductions and fines as a form of punishment.
@premierleague should dock enough points from the 'big six ' to ensure teams like West Ham, Leicester, Everton and Leeds qualify for next year's @ChampionsLeague

That should hit the owners where it hurts 💰💰💰
@BorisJohnson the big six as they are so called should be forced to forfit the remainder of the season and be deducted atleast 12 points at the same time. Hit them where it hurts @premierleague @FIFAcom

There have to be repercussions for the big six.

This attempted coup cannot go unpunished
Start next season on -10 points each
I would dock points off all these so called big 6 for start of new Premier League season as punishment as they will all crawl back now with tails between their legs #Big Six #SuperLeagueOut

Regardless of the “ESL’s” quick demise, the big six should be punished severely for trying to hold every footballing power to ransom. Dock them points, issue European bans and hefty fines.

So the ‘big six’ withdraw. No punishment @premierleague? Dock them all 9 points and a suitable fine. #SuperLeague

What makes these clubs the 'big six' is the bending over backwards by @premierleague @FA and @UEFA allowing them to do as they please unpunished!

Do what's right and fine them massively and dock points like you do smaller clubs that fall on hard times and go into administration!
why are so many people bottling the idea of punishing the big six?

15 point deductions minimum and ban from next years European comps
"Dock points for the big six, fine them and ban them from competitions," one Twitter user posted.
While another fan tweeted: "The big six should be docked 20 points. This will only raise its head again. The FA shouldn't be bullied. Dock them."
A third argued: "All of the big six should start on -6 points next season. This season throw them out of the [European] comps."
And a fourth added: "There's no way the big six should escape point deductions and punishments. The existential threat they brought to the game is unforgivable."
United co-chairman Joel Glazer has issued an open letter to fans saying that he is "personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans" after the fallout of The Super League.
