Manchester United are eyeing up a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi as a long-term successor for Edinson Cavani, according to stunning reports.
Cavani, 34, arrived at Old Trafford last October after his contract with PSG expired.
The Uruguayan striker has been praised since he signed for United as he has scored seven times in 27 appearances for the Red Devils.
However, Cavani's future at United remains uncertain as his current deal will expire in the summer.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reinforce his attacking options, even if Cavani does decide to extend his stay at Old Trafford.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Red Devils are considering a move for Icardi in the summer.
Icardi's future at the Parisian club has been plunged in doubt after he has fallen out of favour with PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino.
The 28-year-old Argentine striker has seen Everton loanee Moise Kean impress in his place.
The former Inter skipper's current deal expires in 2024, but he could quit PSG in the summer in the hopes of securing more regular first-team football.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that PSG would only demand a transfer fee between £25.5m and £34m for Icardi.
United's move for Icardi would be a more feasible alternative than signing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who could command a hefty price tag in the summer.
Cavani's father previously hinted that there could be a "60 per cent chance that Edinson will come to South America."
The former Napoli and PSG striker could sign for Boca Juniors in Argentina, according to Cavani's father.
Luis Cavani told TyC Sports: "I know that he would like to play and be close to his country, so that we could be closer to him."
