'Premier League Launching Hall Of Fame With Eight Players As First Inductees

The Premier League Hall of Fame is finally being launched on Monday, 19 April, with the two inaugural members set to be announced.

That pair of Premier League legends will quickly be joined by another six players, who will be voted in by the fans to make eight initial legends taking their place in the PL Hall of Fame. The announcement will come on a special show on Sky Sports at 6pm on Monday.

The Premier League teased the identity of that first pair of members on Twitter with a video of ex-players talking about the duo's skills.

"It was an absolute nightmare to play against him," says Jamie Carragher. While Jamie Redknapp adds: "I just wish I played alongside him."

Ian Wright chips in with: "A devastating phenomenon coming towards you." The Arsenal legend also adds, possibly of a different player: "He is the best goalscorer the Premier League has ever seen."

That led to fans speculating over who the initial duo could be. Alan Shearer, the Premier League's record goalscorer with 260 strikes for Blackburn and Newcastle, seems a highly likely candidate.

Ryan Giggs, who won a record 13 Premier League titles with Manchester United, is another ex-player with an excellent shot.

However others have speculated it could be Thierry Henry, who Liverpool legend Carragher often struggled to contain (he was not alone there). Arsenal's record goalscorer is often rated by fans and pundits as the greatest Premier League player of them all.

The Premier League Hall of Fame was initially announced for last year, but the launch was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However with things hopefully returning to normal and some fans even returning to live football in the FA Cup, the greatest players of the post-1992, Premier League era are set to be honoured.

Monday will reveal the first two names on live TV and will be followed by the unveiling of a shortlist of nominees for the public to vote on - with six more also joining the Hall of Fame.

We do not expect Ali Dia to be among them, but may well have to vote for the one-game Southampton ace if he is somehow on the list.
