'Fans Vote For Their Premier League Team Of The Decade

Fans have been voting on the best Premier League players of the last decade and they've come up with a pretty decent team.

The end of the year is always a good time for reflection so the end of the decade was always going to bring about a period of looking back at the last 10 years, and football fans are no different.

Plenty of people have been pondering over who would make a team of the decade, and you'll see the SPORTbible choice on Christmas Day, but what about the fans? Well they voted for their XI on BBC Sport.

Interestingly the team is made up of players from just five teams Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Spurs, with only two of the players having played for other sides in the English top flight.

N'Golo Kante and Virgil van Dijk are the two to have played for someone else outside their current clubs. Kante won the title with Leicester City but Van Dijk has almost certainly only been voted due to his time with the Reds rather than time with Southampton.

72% of voters picked a 4-3-3 formation, which very much seems like the formation of the last 10 years even if some teams played with a back three with some success.

David de Gea and Petr Cech dominated the voting for the goalkeepers, which was based on a shortlist compiled through stats and expert opinion, with the United man getting 57% of the vote to Cech's 37%.

The picked player with the lowest percentage of votes was Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the youngster picking up just 19% of the right back votes, understandable considering strong opposition from Kyle Walker, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pablo Zabaleta.

The midfield three of Kevin de Bruyne, 57%, Steven Gerrard, 42% and Kante, 37%, left no room for David Silva, despite him being in the top 10 highest voted players all round, Cesc Fabregas or Frank Lampard.

Upfront Sergio Aguero's 69% of the vote was not only nice but also the highest amount of votes for any player in any position.

It's a sad indictment for Arsenal that none of their players made the team but without a title since 2004 it's not that much of a surprise.

Leicester City players may feel a little hard done to. They may have only had one great season but it was a title winning one.
