'Rio Ferdinand 'Embarrassed' By Manchester United's Performance Against Burnley

Rio Ferdinand lambasted Manchester United for their terrible performance against Burnley, the money being spent badly on transfers and the lack of direction by Ed Woodward.

In a season of lows United's performance at home in the Premier League against Burnley might have been the lowest as they lost 2-0 through goals from Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez, and had little in the way of reply.

Speaking on BT Sport after the match, former United defender, turned pundit, Ferdinand said he was 'embarrassed' by the game, worried about the '£600 million', questioning the 'shoddy recruitment' that had been spent on the club and said that the best players this season had been 'homegrown talent' like 'Brandon Williams, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay.'

Whilst United have spent in recent years they have also seen players leave the club without really replacing them with Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini leaving from midfield with no new investment and Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku leaving from the attack without being replaced.

The club have been linked with Bruno Fernandes in this transfer window, as they were in the summer, but the midfielder remains with Sporting.

It was always going to be a tough night for the Red Devils after they lost Marcus Rashford to a long term injury last week but they did start the brighter with Anthony Martial and Jun Mata both having relatively simple chances.

However their momentum soon died down and once Burnley scored the first goal Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team never looked liked getting back into it.

It's hard to disagree with any of the criticism from Ferdinand or elsewhere and it begs the question, what next for United?
