'Liverpool Can't Win The Premier League If Season Is Cancelled According To Alan Shearer

By Mike Parrott

According to Alan Shearer, Liverpool shouldn't be given the Premier League title if the season is cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The Premier League is currently postponed until further notice.

With nine games remaining of the 2019/20 Premier League Season, the League has been put on hold until at least April 4th due to current COVID-19 outbreak. However, even though the postponement is officially only until April, the majority of experts believe it could be much longer, and even up to September.

This situation currently leaves quite a few teams questioning their short-term future. With Relegation, European qualification, and Champions all currently being unknown, former Blackburn Rovers Striker, Alan Shearer believes that none of this should be settled unless the Premier League resumes.

"As harsh and as horrible as that would be for some clubs, none more so than Liverpool, it is the only outcome. If you cannot complete the fixtures then you cannot go handing out titles or consider relegating anybody."

"But I cannot see how it would be fair to hand them the title, despite the fact it is obvious nobody is going to catch them. They only need six points to wrap it up but they haven't got them yet so for that reason it has to be declared null and void."

"It would be very different if the season was suspended after they had got the points to win it. But they haven't and however horrible a scenario it would be, it's the only option."

Even though Liverpool were only two games away from wrapping up the title, there is still a mathematical chance they wouldn't win the League. The Premier League is set to have a meeting on Thursday to finally bring all these questions to an end.
